School House
https://schoolhouseband.com/
After moving in together in 2021, three best friends discovered their new home was a century-old schoolhouse - inspiring the name and giving them a dedicated space to create. Since then, the group has rapidly gained attention, opening for Canadian music icon Alan Doyle, being named Group of the Year at the 2024 Ottawa Music Awards, and having their debut release awarded Album of the Year by Faces Magazine. The band then secured a coveted spot in the 2024 Mariposa Folk Festival lineup by winning the Artist Showcase - where they were celebrated as “fan favourites” by the festival. In 2025, they further cemented their place as one of Canada’s most exciting acts by winning the Boots and Hearts emerging artist showcase.
Their sound was born around a campfire, taking turns sharing songs and joining in three-part harmony. They combine upbeat singalongs with emotive folk ballads to bring a wise, yet youthful perspective to the Canadian music scene. Releasing their debut album in 2023 and an Acoustic EP in 2024, the band is set to release their highly anticipated album in early 2026.
Braden Lam
https://bradenlam.com/
Blending authentic songwriting with modern indie flair, Braden Lam is forging the path to a new 21st century sound. The young artist from Halifax, Canada meets the moment on The Cloudmaker’s Cry, an album that makes good on the promise of this folk wunderkind, with music reminiscent of a bygone era set to lyrics pulsing with the urgency and anxiety of today. The titular Cry evokes many kinds—cries of joy, of sorrow, of protest, of rage, of grief—as Lam pushes his voice to new edges exploring these expressions, and then some. He hones in and drills down on the complexity of relationships, the mundanity of adulthood, and the lasting impact of history.

NAPALM DEATH
Napalm Death are credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of crust punk and death metal, using a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdrive bass, high speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of incomprehensible growls, or high-pitched shrieks, extremely short songs, fast tempos, and sociopolitical lyrics. Even after exerting an indelible influence on the entire world of heavy music for nearly 40 years, there is still no band on Earth that sounds like Napalm Death. Not just the pioneers, but an enduring benchmark for invention and fearlessness in heavy and experimental music of all kinds, the Birmingham legends are still hurtling forward at full pelt.
PRIMITIVE MAN

Wilser's Room

Lyrics to Literature with Peter Hicks, Bruce Hughes, Eric LeBlanc
Join us on Saturday, January 24th, from 2–4 p.m. at Wilser’s Room for a special afternoon of stories and songs. New Brunswick musicians Bruce Hughes, Eric LeBlanc, and Peter Hicks—each of whom has recently released a book—will come together for an intimate event of conversation, readings, and live music. Moderated by mystery author Chuck Bowie, the gathering highlights the deep connection between lyrics and literature, offering a warm, engaging showcase of local creativity. $10 at the door or free with a festival pass.
About the performers:
Peter Hicks is a writer and singer-songwriter whose creative life has spanned stages, studios, and the page. As the founder of New Brunswick’s Sleepy Driver, he’s built a celebrated catalog of roots-infused Americana across six albums. Writing has always been his constant—songs, poetry, and stories of every length. Under the pen name Andi Ellis, he now crafts contemporary romance with humor, heart, and a sharp eye for modern relationships. His latest romantic comedy, Roughing It, is out now.
Bruce Hughes, born in Saint John, is a retired educator and youth worker with a lifelong passion for music and writing. A guitarist, singer, and songwriter for more than 45 years, he has written, recorded, and earned airplay with several New Brunswick bands, including Blind Dog, The UnHeard, and his current project, Bruce Hughes & The Northside Nomads. He holds a BA in Political Science and Psychology from UNB. After a series of rare strokes in 2017 left him paralyzed from the neck down, Bruce made a remarkable recovery and now serves as the Patient Experience Advisor of Therapeutic Services at Horizon Health, supporting stroke patients and their families. His memoir, A Stroke of Luck: Music, Medicine and a Miraculous Recovery, has been widely praised, earning multiple Top 5 placements in NB by Atlantic Books Today in 2025, including two months at #1. Bruce lives in Fredericton with his wife, Monica, and their lifesaving dog, Willow, and has been touring the Maritimes with interviews and book-signing events, sharing his message of hope.
Eric LeBlanc, born and raised in Fredericton, is a graduate of UNB with a Bachelor of Education. His wide-ranging career has included work as a labourer, construction foreman, electrician, proof-reader, sports writer, advertising salesman, creative copywriter, supply teacher, and customer service representative. In 1980 Eric established the Grasse Circle Jam which ran monthly for over 40 years. He is a longtime musician who has performed in rock, R&B bands, and singer-songwriter settings, frequently contributing to local fundraising events. In addition to his new short-story collection, Stories & Friends, Eric has released two albums and a songbook of original music.
About our moderator:
Chuck Bowie, born in Miramichi, graduated from the UNB with a Bachelor of Science. He is the author of suspense-thrillers and cozys. His writing is shaped by his fascination with human behaviour, and his love of food, wine, music, and travel—all of which find their way into his work. His latest novel, Death Between the Cays, was written under pseudonym Alexa Bowie.

“Do you still believe it?” John Ross asks that question after journeying through the wreckage, after singing of thunder rolling down the track and lighting in a bottle. These are tropes, and he knows it. It’s a moment where he’s returning to the ancient wisdom of his classic rock forebears, trying to find the answers all over again. This is the ground Ross travels in “The Fences Of Stonehenge,” the lead single, opening track, and mission statement of the new Wild Pink album Dulling The Horns. The question reverberates across the album: “Do you still believe it?” And what happens when you don’t anymore?
Ross’ response is to start anew. From the late ‘10s through the early ‘20s, Wild Pink was on the classic ascension arc. The otherworldly synth-Americana of 2018’s Yolk In The Fur garnered them press buzz and accolades, while the widescreen gloss and scope of its followup, 2021’s A Billion Little Lights, swung for the fences at the cusp of the band’s breakthrough. Then everything changed: Ross received a shocking cancer diagnosis. Wild Pink’s subsequent release, 2022’s ILYSM, was inevitably saddled with the weight of being an album about mortality and love. On the other side of it all, Ross began to reimagine what Wild Pink was.
What started out as a pandemic hibernation project is now the fully fledged Montreal indie rock unit, knitting. With evocative storytelling and a dry sense of humour, knitting crafts guitar-driven and lyrically introspective indie rock that evokes the nostalgia of 90s alternative bands like Pavement, Pixies, and Sonic Youth.
Through precise lyricism, brash guitar solos, and whispered vocals, knitting brings to life Dempsey’s experiences as a twenty-something transitioning and learning to understand themself in Montreal. At once massive and intimate, Some Kind of Heaven is a rock record you can blast with your friends or listen to alone in your room, when you’re feeling alienated from everything you know—and wondering if anyone else is, too.
Released on September 6, 2024 via Mint Records, Some Kind of Heaven spent five weeks at #1 on the Canadian campus radio charts and earned the band praise from Pitchfork, The FADER, and Stereogum (Bands to Watch, Best New Artists 2024). knitting has shared the stage with the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Ovlov, and Truth Club, and has toured and performed at festivals across North America.

Order!
Performing originals, we'll have THR33D(halifax), Dyldo
$wagginz(halifax), and Mitchey P(moncton), as our microphone
assassins. For our DJ lineup, we've got DJ PRDY(saint john),
lilboofs(halifax) and the illustrious Tempo Tantrum(saint john) on the
decks all night. They'll be throwing instrumentals down for our talent
to show off their freestyling skills. The DJs will be demonstrating
their improv skills, going b2b2b2b all night. There will be
breakdancing, MCing, big bass-y tunes, secret performances, special
guests and more!
Boofsworld is a collective of artists and friends based in the
Maritimes. They work together with their diverse skills to host
events, combining their talents and gear to host unforgettable
parties. They are committed to providing emerging artists and DJs a
platform to perform.

Help us get Barrie Back!
Ryan Barrie doesn’t just love the drums, he’s obsessed. His life has been led completely by his love for the instrument and how music brings joy to his community. At 35, Ryan, otherwise known as “Barrie”, has performed and recorded with upwards of ten musical projects throughout New Brunswick, including Waylon Napadogan, Kylie Fox, Too Bad Jim and Wicked Vices. He has taught drums to young musicians, and even performed at their birthday parties. He spearheaded a campaign to raise money to replace a fellow drummer's stolen drum kit, he has, as of late, taken on a career where he actively fosters the drumming community world wide, and he recently got married at his favourite music venue (The CAP!) where he played his first show. To Barrie, drumming isn’t just a job or hobby, it’s a way of life.
On November 10th, Barrie underwent a lower back (cluneal nerve decompression) surgery in Cincinnati. Ryan applied to have this procedure covered in part by Canadian Medicare but their application was rejected and they must pay for it out of pocket. The surgery went well and Ryan is now on the road to recovery but the financial strain of something like this is massive and he could really use our help.
Many individuals and bands of the Fredericton Music Scene are banding together, donating their time and talents so that we can help relieve Ryan of the financial pressures that came with his procedure. Ryan is a cherished member of the Fredericton music scene and we want to show him we have his back and have some fun while we're at it!
Sunday, December 21st we will be hosting 2 events at the Cap to fundraise for Ryan. During the daytime we will be hosting an acoustic, family friendly event. Full of collaborations between artists on both the Wilser's Room and Cap stages and a Silent Auction located in the Nest. In the evening we will keep the long standing tradition of the Feels Good Christmas Party going by plugging in with some of Fredericton's finest bands for one of our friendliest buds.
